Wedding Flowers for Valentine's Day WeddingThroughout history, the month of February and Valentine’s Day is a popular choice for North Carolina wedding nuptials.  This year Valentine’s Day falls on a weekend and that is good news for our Asheville couples. With this in mind, many couples chose to take their vows on the most romantic day of 2019?  Today’s post offers a few suggestions for a great Valentine’s Day wedding.

Floral ideas for Valentine’s Day Weddings:

When we think of Valentine’s Day we immediately think of the colors of pink or red. Using florals of different shades of pink and red create a timeless look for romantic spaces.  However, nothing says you can’t use other colors for the wedding theme. For example for a black and white theme, you could add a hint here and there of the pink and red hues.

These pink hues could also be used for other areas of the design to create a noticeable contrast. A few of the most popular floral choices for February wedding include zinnias, peonies, colorful roses, carnations, the water lily, Calla lily and the beautiful delphinium flower.

Cake and flowersValentine’s Day Cake and Desserts:

What a great day to indulge your sweet tooth. The perfect day to serve decadent desserts like small individual cakes for the guests drizzled with strawberry syrup or different fruits.  A white wedding cake is the rage this year and also naked cakes (those without icing on the top of the layers).  The flavor is added between the layers with butter creme frosting or a red filling with fruit added.

Adding flowers to the cake:

Our flowers from BobbyMark’s Designs are always a popular way to enhance any wedding cake.  Romantic blooms for Valentine’s Day such as peonies, passion flowers, and Juliet Roses are a few top choices for the season.  Flowers for the cake topper combined with a few colorful berries will spice up any cake design. These suggestions will create a beautiful and exotic look for your February wedding.

Headpiece floral designAdding flowers to headpiece and veil:

Placing flowers on the top of wedding cakes was popular long before other options such as figurines became popular.  Adding flowers to the cake topper and using those same floral choices for the bridesmaids and flower girl headpieces is a new trend. Some brides are even choosing floral headpieces in lieu of having the normal veil. This is especially true for small garden weddings.

Requesting a price for cake floral design:

To request flowers for the cake topper you would normally provide a sketch of the cake to the florist.  The florist will then give you a price quote based upon the volume of flowers needed. Flowers used for headpieces will increase the floral budget but fresh flowers add a touch of class to any wedding celebration and smell wonderful as well.  Any flowers you choose must last until the cake is cut so you should discuss this with the florist since some blooms last longer than others.

Setting the mood with lighting and floral design:

There is nothing more romantic than a candle-lit dinner surrounded by beautiful flowers. If the wedding reception is taking place in the evening, it is easy to set a cozy mood for winter weddings. Especially on Valentine’s Day, we suggest using the right lighting to set the mood.  Adorn the ceremony space with lighted candles along the floor (as the bride enters). For the table decor, choose silky linens, or add sequins.  This along with adding a few crystals to the floral arrangements will bring the WOW factor to life.  Consider adding flower-draped candelabras and decorated chandeliers to add a dramatic touch.

Add candles and a few faux pillows within the seating areas.  This works especially wonderful when there is a working fireplace within the reception space. For safety sake, you can add a few LED lights near the dance floor to create a romantic mood.  Another suggestion is to set up a large engagement photo of the couple. with an autograph mat.  Ask family and guests to add a note of congratulations.

Sugar flowers on the cakeCosts for floral design is higher in 2019:

As reported recently, the price for floral design for weddings has increased over previous years.  If you find the price is higher than the budget allows you could ask the florist to quote artificial silk flowers or even ask the baker to create a few “sugar flowers” for a cake topper.  Another option is to use a wedding figurine or DIY (do it yourself).  Either of these two options will definitely save the budget.  Here is a list of popular flowers for February weddings:

  • Orchids
  • Roses
  • Protea
  • Iris
  • Calla lilies
  • Dahlias
  • Baby’s breath
  • Hypericum berries
  • Various greenery

Brides this year are looking for bold, new choices for spring. The floral budget for 2019 is expanding and the average cost for floral design is around $2,600.00.  Brides will be requesting flowers which connect with the theme they have chosen. One of a kind events are on the rise and every bride today wants her wedding to be unique with elements not seen before.  This can create a challenge for any floral designer.

Video production in the great outdoors:

A new idea for the reception, consider creating a video in the great outdoors surrounded by beautiful flowers and greenery. Remember, it could be inclement weather on the actual wedding day and this will create a sweet and sunny mood. A reception video presentation is a good way to fill time and all will enjoy this personal touch.

holding hands and proposingThe couple can use images from their own love stories such as images from their engagement or the proposal. They could also incorporate a few childhood memories. The two of you could appear briefly in the video to explain how you met and how the proposal occurred.  Include your best man, maid/matron of honor and a couple of very important people in your life.  Have them talk a bit about their relationship with you and how they learned about your relationship.

The sky is the limit for ideas to add to the video.  Just so you may be inclined to share this in years to come with your future children, be respectful and show good taste.

Thanks for stopping by today.  Stay tuned next time for part two of Valentine’s Day weddings.
