We recently shared many different wedding cake alternatives. This week, we want to rewind to the main course. Seasonal foods are becoming more in demand for North Carolina weddings and casual events.

Back to the main course with seasonal foods:

Millennials, as well as other generations, aim to utilize foods that are in season. If you are not familiar what seasonal foods are, it refers to the practice of purchasing and consuming foods around the time that it is harvested. This not only makes the food more delicious, but it also benefits local farmers.

The farm to table initiative emphasized the importance on buying foods locally. Doing so guarantees you are buying seasonal foods. How nice is it to see where the foods you eat is growing?

For elegant weddings, this is a must have. In order to have exquisite meals, the food must be fresh. Buying locally increases the food’s freshness as it did not travel as far. Seasonal fruits and vegetables lose freshness and nutrient as time passes.

Crops picked at the peak of their ripeness taste better because of the flavor intensity. Additionally, fruits and vegetables contain more nutrients when allowed to ripen on their parent plant. For a divine meal, entrust BobbyMark’s Designs to lead you in the right direction of the perfect caterer.

Fresh foods for the fourth:

strawberry shortcake The fourth of July is filled with incredible comfort foods. Similarly to Memorial Day, BBQ delights are grilled, smoked, and baked to supply nostalgic treats. All generations appreciate and look forward to the barbecue main courses and sides.

This holiday, incorporate seasonal favorites. Strawberry shortcake is a traditional dessert. It is simple, easy, yet magnificent.

If baking is not your strong suit, opt for an easy store bought option. Your local grocer should have a freezer section or bakery that will have poundcake or biscuit option. Pair this with either homemade whipped cream, or you could just buy this already made as well. We promise not to tell.

Add on strawberries and drizzle a bit of agave or strawberry glaze for a garnish. Mint leaves look beautiful with this simple, traditional dessert. Going with a farm to table approach, opt for fresh, local produce.

Very effortlessly, pick up berries in season, but don’t get stumped if they aren’t available. The effort is a great first step. Remember supporting local businesses is great for your local economy as well as your health.

Seasonal festive fruit ideas:

Put together a casual and festive red, white, and blue fruit tray. Naturally, blueberries, strawberries, blackberries, and whipped cream make a gorgeous spread. All three colors of our flag are displayed with local produce. That is the American pride we adore.

To elevate this idea, slice the very tip of the strawberry off. This allows the strawberry to stand up on its own. Fill it with fresh whipped cream or stark white icing.

The icing will stand more rigid and look more presentable. Use a piping back and decorative tip to perfect the look. Remember that these may contain eggs depending on how you prepare them. Food safety and allergies should be acknowledged.

If you are in charge of cheat-day worthy treats, bake round sugar cookies. Mix together a bright white royal icing recipe. Dollop a bit onto the center of the cookie.

Tap the cookie on a level surface to spread the icing. Add red dye. There are natural options for people with the dye red #40 allergies. One can be found at Whole Foods. Check out local stores for locally sourced, natural food dyes.

Then, create a blue icing. Fill small sandwich bags with some of each colored icing. Place the colors in circles. Biggest to smallest rings.

Using a toothpick, drag the edge of the color to the center. This will make an impressive design. Martha Stewart called these the fireworks cookies.

Do not be too hard on yourself trying to make everything homemade. You can always order a stunning dessert from a pastry and dessert studio such as 50/ Fifty.

As always, please be safe with traffic, fireworks, candles, bonfires, and bodies of water. Enjoy your holiday, and celebrate this incredible country we call home. Come back next time for more!
